Saigon Day 15 – Exploring the city, Knock-off marketplace, Nightlife

  • Got up nice and early around 7:30am
  • Had breakfast at the hotel which was included in the $5 room
  • Set out on an adventure!
  • Determined to get a great deal on a knock-off watch I went to the local marketplace known for its deals.
  • Worked a few people down and noticed that they settle for around 1/4 of what they start negotiating at.
  • Got so fed up with girls grabbing me and telling me to buy a shirt I left
  • Took a moto for $1 to the Reunification Palace… I paid too much
  • Walked around there for a while, offered to take pictures for other people to increase my karma
  • Decided to walk back to the hotel and intentionally get lost along the way.
  • Found some amazing knock-off art gallerys with my favorite pop-art artists that I could never find in the states. It’s a shame I can’t ship things back or carry them with me.
  • Saw some cool parks, a big church and a temple
  • Wandered into the seedy area of town and went to a local’s market
  • Noticed that everyone kept staring at my shoes… Still don’t know why.
  • Went back to the Hotel and had lunch at a little stand with Nemo
  • Got changed and shaved
  • Went back to the Knock-off market to haggle and get my watch.
  • Picked up a killer knock-off of a Breitling for $13
  • Looked for gifts for everyone but nothing there showed love or had a soul… just useless junk.
  • Went back to the room, washed up and got dressed up to hit the town.
  • Went to a small beer place across from the hotel and ran into 4 people my age that were going to be teachers here.
  • Hung out with them and Travis at another bar playing pool until 2am
  • Ran into my Jewish lesbian friend I met in Hoi An on the way back to the Hotel
  • Slept like a baby
